The Expo 4 Screenplay Competition is proud to
announce an unprecedented alliance with comic book studio Dabel Brothers Production (DB Pro).
In addition to the competition's over $80,000 in prizes, Ernst, Les, Pascal, and David Dabel's DB Pro will adapt
one of the contest's top genre screenplays into a 4-issue full-color comic book miniseries as well as a graphic novel with a budget of $50,000.
Breakfast with Sharks
author, Michael Lent, one of the Expo competition judges since its inception, closed a deal with DB Pro earlier in the year to have his screenplay Origin
adapted into a comic book and graphic novel. Michael introduced DB Pro vice president Les Dabel to Expo 4 Competition coordinator Jim Mercurio. The three of them came up
with the idea to reward one of the Expo's talented writers. DB Pro vice president Les Dabel said, "We want to help a writer. And if we hit a homerun, the winner will not soon forget the Expo or DB Pro."
DB Pro will pick the winner from 50 quarterfinalist scripts in the following genres: horror, action, sci-fi, fantasy, and thriller. The winner will be paid to write or co-write the comic
adaptation, share in profits and retain the underlying rights to sell the screenplay. DB Pro's highest-visibility project is George R.R. Martin's The Hedge Knight. DB Pro is also working on The Wheel of Time
by Robert Jordan (who has sold more than 50 million books), which is also being developed as a feature film.
The Expo 4 Screenplay Competition deadline is August 8.
