Los Angeles, CA — Slamdance received over 600 entries for its teleplay competition, which included both one-hour and half-hour dramas and comedies.
Slamdance is celebrating its 13th year and has become the pre-eminent film festival. The festival has established a unique reputation for premiering new films by first-time writers and directors who work with limited budgets. This viewpoint extends to television scripts, or teleplays, as well.
The three Slamdance Teleplay Competition finalists will attend the Slamdance Film Festival, where the first place winner will be announced at the awards ceremony. Also, at the festival, the three finalists will participate in a roundtable discussion with fox21 executives and Slamdance representatives. Afterwards, the finalists will be invited to Los Angeles for a pitch session with fox21 at the company’s headquarters, where each of them will have an opportunity to showcase their ideas and television writing potential. The teleplay competition winner is guaranteed to have one of his or her ideas developed into a pilot by fox21.
fox21 is an alternative television production arm of Twentieth Century Fox Television. The division is devoted to helping writers realize their “passion projects.” Ideas that might be considered too personal or unconventional for other studios are championed.
"At fox21, we're dedicated to giving a platform to fresh, untapped talent with great ideas and unique voices,” said Jane Francis, Senior Vice President, fox21. “The Slamdance Film Festival has been a fantastic partner, and this teleplay competition is an opportunity for us to access the next generation of writers and creators."
