
Cinequest 18 Screenwriting Competition

San Jose, CA — October 21, 2007 — Organizers of the Cinequest Film Festival announced that screenplay submissions are now being accepted for the Cinequest 18 Screenwriting Competition. The deadline for submission is November 10, 2007 with a discounted entry fee to those who submit before October 31, 2007.
On January 7, 2008, 10 finalists will be announced and given 14 days to resubmit their screenplays with any corrections and improvements they choose. Those 10 screenplays will be sent to the final jury, which is comprised of top industry producers and development executives. The top three winners will be announced and given cash prizes during Cinequest 18, February 27 - March 9, 2008. Festival expert Chris Gore named Cinequest as one of the “Best Festivals for Screenwriters” in the latest edition of his Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide.
Screenplays will be judged for vision, story, character development, dialogue, marketability and originality. Finalists will have their screenplays read by a jury that includes top industry leaders.
Prizes include the following:
- 1st Place: $2,000 U.S.
- 2nd Place: $1,000 U.S.
- 3rd Place: $500 U.S.
The top 10 finalists will:
- Get exposure to literary agencies, film studios and Hollywood producers.
- Receive a Cinequest 18 Festival Pass, which allows full access to all Cinequest
events, screenings and parties.
- Be contacted January 7, 2008, and be given until January 21, 2008, to submit a
rewritten script.
- Have names and contact information posted on the Cinequest Web site.
First, Second, and Third Place winners will be included in a Cinequest press release and will have their screenplays read by influential producers, agents and/or managers who play an active role in today’s industry.
All screenplay genres and lengths (up to 130 pages) are accepted. The entry fee is $40 before October 31, 2007 and $50 through November 10, 2007. Visit the Cinequest Web site to enter screenplays in the competition and to view official rules and regulations.
